Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things.

I visited one of my favourite stores today, French Vanilla Home and Garden, and had a delightful chat with the owner Sheila Stone. I adore this store and when I want inspiration or simply refreshment in vision I stop by and browse through the many displays that Sheila has so beautifully designed.

Sheila’s artistic eye favours Nordic and Farmhouse French; a casual look that can pair a crystal chandelier with grainsack cushions, mixing textiles of homespun fabric with velour and velvet.

French Vanilla carries the wonderful Belgium magazine, Jeanne d’Arc Living, which illustrates so beautifully Nordic French design.

Sheila introduced me to Fusion Mineral Paint. It has a built in top coat and you don’t have to wax it. She has been carrying it for four years and finds it to be easy to use with a lasting finish. This might be the ticket for the vintage mirror that I found on line.

Sheila has a passion for painting furniture. She holds workshops in How to Paint furniture, and How to use glaze and waxes and hopes to hold more classes in the new year. This is her petit studio where the workshops are held.

She carries Rub on Transfers…adding a French touch to furniture and mirrors…a number of the Rub on Transfers are made from old French graphics… gorgeous is this mirror!!

…and Sheila also carries Decorative Stamping.

Using ink or paint you can stamp onto fabric or furniture. How stunning is this chest!

Sheila stocks French soaps, Lavender, and locally made candles and cushions,

and handmade cards.

Sheila welcomes her customers to browse, chat and discuss ideas and questions they may have on decor and/or products. She was most helpful in helping me to decide on how to ‘freshen up’ my powder room. Before we leave let us take one more stroll around the shop.

A bientot!
