― Eli Brown,
“A Victoria icon, a place one must visit, be sure to take guests, order the eggs benny – they are fabulous!” I had been wanting to patronize John’s Place for many months… because of the many statements I had heard from friends and acquaintances.
We arrived at 1:45ish and the place was busy. We chatted with two couples who said that they came to John’s Place every week or so for the eggs benny …..which delighted us because we are huge eggs benny fans.
The diner is decorated with poster memorablia and a (modern) jukebox.
On the advice of our friendly server we ordered two of the most popular dishes: the Classic eggs benedict with grilled Virginia Ham and butter (gluten free) hollandaise sauce accompanied with home fries….delicious!!
and “Bat out of Hell, Meatloaf and eggs” a Southwestern meatloaf made from ground beef and pork with mushroom Marsala gravy……(The meatloaf is hiding under the toast)….. it was so tasty.
Folks, this is the place for comfort food. The menu is extensive and it claims that everything is made from scratch: herb breads to salad dressings, pies to cheesecakes. The diner is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, 364 days of the year.
Since we were FULL from our meal Lil ordered takeout for dessert and this apple pie proved to be delicious.
An eating establishment of tasty food, reasonable prices, unique decor and friendly service. I”ll be back.
